A new European Space Partnership to foster innovation

A new European Space Partnership to foster innovation

September 12th, 2024

This week marked a significant milestone as the European Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SPACE AISBL for the co-programmed European Partnership for Globally Competitive Space Systems - the "Space Partnership" - under the HorizonEurope framework.

This partnership is set to strengthen the competitiveness of the space industry by bringing together the entire space supply chain to identify key research priorities, accelerating innovation, and reducing the time-to-market for EU space systems.

By 2025, the Space Partnership will enhance the involvement of the private sector in HorizonEurope, with an EU investment of 100 million EUR earmarked for satellite communication, Earth observation, and space transportation. Private partners are expected to contribute an additional 120 million EUR through in-kind support.

The signature ceremony took place on October 10, 2024, in the presence of the Director Generals of DG DEFIS C. and DG RTD, along with the President of SPACE AISBL and representatives from the founding members (ASD-Eurospace, SME4SPACE, ESRE, EASTRO, and EASN).

We at EASN are proud to be part of this historic partnership and look forward to collaborating with industry, research institutes, and policymakers to achieve new milestones for European space systems!
