Head of International Cooperation Unit in the National Institute for Aerospace Research "Elie Carafoli" - INCAS Bucharest, INCAS representative in the EREA Executive Secretariat (European Research Establishments in Aeronautics) and member of the Steering Committee of IFAR (International Forum for Aviation Research).

Q1. What is the concept that shapes the 8th edition of the AEROdays event?
The European Aeronautics Days (Aerodays) represent the leading event in aviation research and innovation, a solid platform to share and review the latest developments in aeronautics and air transport across the European Union. Almost three decades after the launch of this event, its 8th edition features a new and collaborative approach with two integrated events organized in Romania, in 2019, and Germany, in 2020, based on a unifying concept: TandemAEROdays19.20
Funded under the Grant Agreement number 824238 from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, TandemAEROdays19.20 is supported by a consortium coordinated by INCAS Bucharest, having as partners the German Aerospace Center - DLR and the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding in Romania - UEFISCDI.
This synchronized initiative will bridge the achievements of Horizon 2020, currently the largest EU Research Framework Programme, with the strategic goals and expectations for the next decade, further strengthening the European and national competitiveness in aeronautics and the air transport sector, while at the same time reinforcing the academic, research and industrial network from all the EU Member States.
TandemAERO19.20 will offer a two-phase synergic concept with clear benefits regarding totrans-national cooperation and long-term sustainability for research and innovation, doubling as a dissemination forum for the aviation community. It will boost the political support for the aviation sector from Member States with different participation and priorities in EU programmes, aiming at a clear political message for joint industrial cooperation policies.
The two complementary events organized under the TandemAEROdays19.20 concept will provide a solid platform to share and review the latest developments in aeronautics and air transport across the European Union, further strengthening its leadership on a highly competitive and strategic international market.

Q2. What are the coordinates of the TandemAEROdays event organized next year in Romania?
The first event built under the TandemAERodays19.20 concept will take place in Bucharest, on the week of 27th - 31st of May 2019, during Romania?s mandate at the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As the first AEROdays host in Central and Eastern Europe, Bucharest offers both a prominent location for the event -the Romanian Palace of Parliament - and an open environment for regional synergies in aerospace research and education, confirming the rapid expansion and development of a coherent European strategy in the transportation sector, especially in the aeronautics and air transport area. The event will unfold during four days of plenary and technical sessions that include several planned visits to major local research and industrial facilities, offering plenty of social networking opportunities for a wide and comprehensive range of speakers and attendants arriving in Bucharest for a groundbreaking event.
Registrations for the AEROdays event organized in Bucharest will start soon at: www.tandemaerodays19-20.eu

Q3. What are the strategic objectives of the AEROdays event organized in Romania?
The AEROdays event in Bucharest is aiming to promote regional policies for research and education in aeronautics, to facilitate and encourage the participation of Eastern European countries to a high-level event and to share their expertise in specific areas of industrial competitiveness, taking full advantage of the opportunities fuelled by the enlargement of the EU. It also offers a platform for the dissemination and implementation of world-leading EU projects and technical programs based on the Horizon 2020 framework, providing in the same time communication links between European companies, from small and medium-sized enterprises to multinational companies, nurturing a fruitful exchange of ideas with the research community.
TandemAEROdays19.20 will disseminate results and demonstrations from flagship programmes in the aviation sector, such as Clean Sky, SESAR, Future Sky and will also encompass social and networking activities to stimulate future collaborations within Horizon Europe, the next EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme. Last but not least, TandemAEROdays19.20 will focus on conveying through relevant media channels an updated overview of recent developments in EU aeronautics research and innovation.

Q4. Who should participate?
More than 800 participants are expected at the AEROdays event in Bucharest, bringing together a global audience, including major European stakeholders, high-level political representatives from Romania and Germany, and leaders from the European Commission and the European Parliament.
With the objective to reinforce the academic, research and industrial network from all EU Member States, TandemAEROdays19.20 will tap on the diverse expertise and tradition of each participant, broadening the access to all interested parties, from innovative start-ups and resourceful small and medium-sized enterprises to students focused on aeronautical engineering and researchers involved in projects that will shape the future of aviation and space exploration.
