The Joint European Technology Platform (ETP)

The first two workshops of the Joint European Technology Platform (ETP) Task Force on infrastructure research for the new European research frame programme "Horizon 2020" were organized in September 2012 and February 2013 in Brussels.

Summarized and presented by Dr. Helge Pfeiffer, KU Leuven.

The global idea is to establish a higher-level advisory council involving research stakeholders from different transport modes as well as infrastructure providers. The Joint ETP was initiated by the European Commission (Directorates-General for Transport and Mobility as well as Research & Innovation) and the intention is to streamline work programmes on transport, especially when infrastructures and different transport modes are addressed. The joint task force intends to provide a single roadmap on infrastructure research and innovation by mid-2013 so that it can contribute to the design of Horizon 2020. There was a general agreement that this initiative has a lot of potential and the synergies can be found where the research roadmaps of the different ETP's show sufficient overlap. At the moment, only the ETP's such as ACARE and the European Commission have a mandate for developing this Joint ETP, but the workshops are usually open for all stakeholders. Also EASN will be present and report on new developments.
